Patterns are creations I love to make because I can apply them to almost everything I make.
Tessellated patterns are my favorite type of pattern. I have started playing with my swallow muse and creating a variety of patterns that I can print on paper or fabric and stamp into clay.
The starting point for me in creating these patterns is to select a triangle type or a square or rectangle and create a drawing that I know will tessellate. Tessellate means, creating a pattern that will not overlap or have gaps in it and will most likely repeat endlessly. and on a 2D shape or a 3D form.
I love patterns because they are everywhere, which makes them a great tool to connect a lot of the art mediums I like to work with.
This is a Swallow Pattern
that I drew out on paper that I wanted to tessellate
inside the boundaries of a rectangle.
This is what the above pattern looks like
repeated four times.
Just think of this repeated 8 times
and each multiple repeat sometimes
creates new shapes and patterns!
This pattern can be layed out in a
grid pattern, brick pattern or
a half drop pattern that I prefer to call my
vertical brick layout.
